Abstract: In the last two decades, Think-Aloud Protocols (TAPs), as an interdisciplinary study of translation and psychology, has been a major instrument in process-oriented translation studies. This paper intends to study the translating process from the perspective of author-translators. Lin Yutang’s self-translation of Between Tears and Laughter is selected as a case. Based on first-hand materials and a bilingual parallel corpus, the paper attempts to address some of these issues in the self-translator’s TAPs. It is claimed that the data can be divided into three parts as TAPs: self-report, self-observation and self-revelation, and the global strategies the translator adopts agree with the general translation strategies while the local strategie, s have their unique characteristics, which may be the translator’s style. |
