摘 要: 古代文献中“禾、和”通用,这为寻找“和”的源头提供了线索。《说文》“禾,嘉穀也。二月始生,八月而孰,得时之中,故谓之禾”,虽点出了“禾-和”的语源关系,但却倒因为果。抽象概念“和”应是建立在具体称谓“禾”之上的。甲骨文中有“ ”,本义为“求禾”,即用口(言语)祈求禾谷丰收,因而造出“从‘口’、从‘禾’,‘禾’亦声”的字形来。 |

Abstract: In the ancient documents, “grain”(禾) and “harmony”(和) were interchangeable. This provides a clue to the origin of “harmony”(和). Shuowen points out: “Grain(禾) means good crops. It sprouts in the second month of the lunar year and ripens in the eighth month, which is in the middle of the year, and that is why it is pronounced He(禾).”Here it tells the etymological relationship between “grain(禾) and harmony(和)”,but taking the cause as the effect. The abstract idea harmony(和)should be based on the concrete name of grain(禾).There was in the inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells of the Shang Dynasty, which means praying for harvest with words. So it has mouth(口)in the grain(禾)and is pronounced the same as grain(禾). |
