An analysis of the meaning of American Isolationism |

| Abstract: Isolationism in American history is an unclearly-defined concept ever since. Based on the study of the history of the term “Isolationism” and brief retrospect of the pre-1945 American diplomatic history, this paper points up that isolationism is the foreign policy to which the United States had been sticking before 1945; avoiding political and military interference in foreign affairs is its fundamental content; it did not hamper the dynamic development of the American foreign trade and investment. With the beginning of the cold war after WWII, the isolationist diplomacy came to an end after all. |
