| Abstract: Indigenous Futurism has, over the past decade, emerged as a significant creative and critical trend in the fields of indigenous literature and art. It seeks to transcend the grand narratives of white-supremacist futurism by envisioning futures centered on indigenous existence and culture. In the process of its development and evolvement, this trend has not only generated subgenres exemplified by indigenous cyberpunk and indigenous eco-dystopia, but also simultaneously established an epistemological framework grounded in indigenous futurity and indigenous scientific literacy, hence further positioning “Indigeneity” at the very heart of technological imagination and futurist narratives. Indigenous Futurism constitutes both a highly innovative aesthetic practice and a decolonial endeavor aimed at revitalizing indigenous culture and tradition while pursuing self-determination for indigenous communities for both the present and the future. Its emergence and development not only create new possibilities for constructing a more just, inclusive, and plural future, but also offers critical insights for the Global South in moving beyond Western-centric discourses and fostering mutual learning and exchange among diverse civilizations. |
