| Abstract: Since the 20th century, people’s definition of literature has mainly been influenced by Western literary theory. Compared to ancient Chinese “literature”, its concept has gradually been narrowed and purified, which has also led to the fact that many “miscellaneous literature” texts in modern and contemporary literature have been obscured and ignored. If “pure literature” is the “main body” of Chinese mode, rn and contemporary literature, then “miscellaneous literature” is its “tail”. Due to the massive existence of ‘miscellaneous literature’, it is a ‘long tail’. Both “miscellaneous literature” and “pure literature” have a certain degree of literary quality, but there is a difference in degree. Of course, “miscellaneous literature” has its own ontological characteristics, emphasizing more on “non-fiction” and “practicality”, while also possessing such three “miscellaneous” kinds or purposes as reality intervention, literariness, and criticism. In terms of value, the study of “miscellaneous literature” not only helps us understand the literary reality, historical environment, and relationship with traditional resources of modern and contemporary Chinese literature, but also provides a more inclusive concept of literary genres, filling the structural gap in literary criticism and literary history. |
