Abstract: Time and temporality constitute a common subject in both the natural sciences and social sciences, with time boasting of its ontological, methodological and epistemological significance in comprehending the world. The establishment and advancement of the Chinese modernization path have fundamentally overturned those West-centered classical assertions based on time-linearity narrative concerning modernization, including theories of “Monistic Linear Development”, “the End of History”, “the Clash of Civilizations”, “Dependency and Adsorption”, and “World System Theory”. This path has also subverted the modernization metaphor of “World Imperialism Time,” and transcended universal Time Geography which has centered around the West. The Chinese-style modernization is a temporal process characterized by highly compressed space-time, multiple superimpositions, parallel-and-leapfrog development, and is also a continuous advancement of wholeness and localization, continuity and rupture, gradualism and radicalism. The Chinese-style modernization path, as China Time, provides China’s experiences for the world in building harmonious society, solving such issues as human mutual development, expanding world modernization path as well as time variety of human civilization, boosting the modernization path for post-development countries, constructing a community of human destiny, and achieving worldwide governance. |
