Abstract: Taking advantage of the “Web of Science” database to collect journal articles and its references, the present essay focuses on international linguistic landscape’s research status quo, research hot spots and research frontiers based on the platform of CiteSpace. There are several findings. First, over the past two decades, the international linguistic landscape research has been on the rise; especially since 2012, the research has been developing rapidly with the United States, South Africa, China and the United Kingdom as the leading countries of international linguistic landscape studies, and with Ghent University, University of Jyväskylä, and University of the Free State as its most active in this research field. Second, the international language landscape research field has a common knowledge base, and the research achievements of Landry & Bourhis and Scollon & Scollon have laid the foundation of knowledge in this field. Third, the current hot topics of international linguistic landscape mainly point to key words “multilingualism”, “language policy”, “ English” and “minority language”. In the next few years, the research frontiers will cover multilingual linguistic landscape, English linguistic landscape and tourism linguistic landscape. |
